Project Overview
IMD Process delivered a full turnkey installation for a well-known sweets manufacturer, providing an integrated system for the storage, heating, transfer, and distribution of glucose and granulated sugar. The solution was designed to enhance production efficiency, maintain product integrity, and ensure reliable supply to downstream filling operations.
The Challenge
The client required a robust system capable of handling high volumes of viscous glucose while maintaining strict temperature control to ensure pumpability. In parallel, a consistent and automated supply of granulated sugar was needed to support continuous production demand.
Our Solution
Glucose Storage & Heating
A 120-tonne glucose storage tank was installed with an integrated heating system designed to maintain the product at 45°C. This ensures the glucose remains at optimal viscosity for efficient transfer and processing.
Thermal Control System
A steam-to-hot water ring main was implemented to distribute heat across the system. This feeds into jacketed process pipework, maintaining consistent temperature throughout transfer and eliminating the risk of crystallisation or blockages.
Hygienic Transfer System
IMD Process designed and installed a fully hygienic pumping and pipework system, including approximately 75 metres of stainless steel pipework routed across the facility. The system is engineered for food-grade applications, ensuring cleanliness, reliability, and ease of maintenance.
Elevated Holding Tank
A high-level holding tank was installed on a purpose-built platform. This allows glucose to be delivered to filling machines via gravity feed, improving efficiency and reducing energy consumption.
Sugar Handling Integration
Alongside the liquid system, a 120-tonne granulated sugar silo and conveyor system (supplied by STB Engineering) was integrated to provide a seamless, on-demand supply of dry ingredient to the production line.
